Check and allocate turnover

After a account import, the transactions appear separated by commas – but are still meaningless. The Review Transactions step turns them into analysable data: each transaction is assigned to the correct category.

How the review works

Under Finances → Review Transactions, you’ll see all transactions that haven’t yet been allocated. For each transaction, you decide:

  • Which project or purpose does it belong to? (e.g. ‘General donations’, ‘Summer party’, ‘Rent’)
  • Is everything plausible – amount, sender, reference?

Once assigned, the transaction is included in the overview’s analyses.

Identifying donations

When donations come in, it’s worth checking the sender’s name: if the person is listed as a contact, the donation can be allocated – which forms the basis for thank-you letters and end-of-year donation receipts.

Practical tips

  • Check regularly: 20 transactions can be dealt with in ten minutes. A three-month backlog will take an evening.
  • Allocate consistently: A transaction without an allocation will be missing from every report later on.
  • If in doubt, ask: It’s better to clarify unclear entries with the cashier than to categorise them incorrectly.

Dual-control principle

The person checking the transactions can be different from the one initiating payments – a simple dual-control principle that highlights errors and misunderstandings at an early stage.
