Households

Many organisations communicate not only with individuals, but with families or shared accommodation. Komma offers households for this purpose: multiple contacts are grouped together into a single unit with a shared address.

Why households are useful

  • Postal mail: One letter per household instead of three letters to the same address – this saves on postage and comes across as more considerate.
  • Overview: In the contact profile, you can immediately see who belongs to the same family.
  • Address management: If a family moves house, you only need to change the address in one place.

Creating a household

  1. Open a contact’s profile.
  2. In the Household section, add further contacts who live at the same address.
  3. From now on, the members of the household will share the same address.

Households when sending letters

When sending letters, you can choose whether to address each person individually or to create a single letter per household (e.g. ‘Muster family’). Find out more under Creating letters.

Good to know

  • A person can only belong to one household at a time.
  • Newsletters and emails will continue to be sent to each person individually – the household is primarily relevant for postal purposes.
  • If a person leaves the household (e.g. when moving house), simply remove them from the household and enter their new address in their profile.
